The Blabbity Issue #9

Custom Content; Hit or Miss? by: Bologna | edited by: Bologna

Simmers everywhere constantly debate the issue of Custom Content, often referred to as CC. CC is clothes, hair, objects, anything that other players create for the Sims so others can download and enjoy it in their game. Thousands of Simmers download this custom content, but does it really make the game more enjoyable?
The Maxis made stuff that comes with the game is, well, at least the graphics aren't bad on it. However there are a lot of simmers out there that find this stuff less then desirable. Which is the main reason they go off and download custom hair, clothes, skin, and make up. I often find that a lot of the custom content out there is poorly made in that while playing the game, the logo's are blurred and it's just not as pleasing to the eye as Maxis content may be. However there are also many very talented CC creators and many, many good sites to download from!
However, the train goes both ways. I've heard many a times how much some Simmers will never touch custom content. For one thing, they believe that too much of it makes our Sims look fake and "barbie-ish". I've heard simmers say things like "It's not fun playing you game when every sim is picture perfect". I can see where they are coming from. Another downside to CC is it can take up a lot of room on your computer and make your game run slower. I've known simmers with thousands of files in their downloads folder, I myself had over 3,000 at one point. If your computer can handle it, more power to ya.
Often in instances like this, simmers will clean out their downloads folder. They find that their game runs so much smoother and when they go to download CC again, it's like starting fresh.
So, of course, simmers have different opinions on custom content. And different levels of use. Some simmers will occasionally download one or two things if they happen to come by it, others will go on downloading sprees and get hundreds of files in one day. But however you play, play safe, have fun, and be happy. Whether that means you need custom content, or you absolutely cannot have it, enjoy yourself.
